Slow Progress

As yet, I've made no more progress on the case modification. I have however finished preparing the new hard drive for the NESbox. It now boots straight into the latest version of XBMC, and is loaded up with a NES emulator and a truck load of ROMs. Hopefully I'll be able to get stuck into some of the case chopping this weekend, and have some pictures to show.

Still looking for some good ideas for the cartridge slot - again any suggestions would be welcome.

Getting Started

This blog will document my progress as I attempt to build a NESbox - an XBOX running XBMC mounted inside a gutted old NES. This is my first serious case mod (my only previous attempt was a paint job), so I'm fairly eager myself to see how it turns out. To start with, I bought an old NES (ebay) for next to nothing. Taking it apart was extremely straightforward, and I removed the existing contents. At this point, I have a few ideas in mind for the finisihing, but I am still fairly undecided, so any suggestions or comments would be apprecieated. Check out the pictures below for progress so far.

The NES chassis, gutted:

The original cartridge slot. I was originally going to mount an optical drive in here, but have since decided to dispense with it altogether. At this point, I'm thinking of leaving the original controller ports intact and mounting the XBOX controller ports under here. Either that or an LCD display.

The original power and reset buttons. One will act as the power button for the NESbox.
